Madison Square Garden, located in New York City, is a multi-purpose indoor arena that has hosted numerous sporting and entertainment events since its opening in 1968. What started out as primarily a venue for ice hockey games of the New York Rangers, has now evolved into a premier location for basketball games of the New York Knicks.
History of Madison Square Garden
The original Madison Square Garden was built in 1879 and was located on 26th Street and Madison Avenue. It was primarily used for sporting events such as boxing and track and field. The current Madison Square Garden, located on 7th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets, is the fourth incarnation of the arena and opened in 1968.

The Knicks have won two NBA championships in their history, both of which were won while playing at Madison Square Garden. The arena has also hosted numerous college basketball games, including the Big East Tournament.
Madison Square Garden has been a popular venue for basketball tournaments such as the NIT and the NCAA East Regional. In addition, the arena has been the location for other basketball-related events such as the NBA Draft and the NBA All-Star Game.
