If hockey fans were asked to name the best hockey lines of all time, there would be a lot of opinions. But there can be no doubt that history has given us some of the most dominant and fearsome trios ever to grace the ice. Here are just a few of them.
The Production Line - Detroit Red Wings
The Production Line was the nickname for the Detroit Red Wings' top scoring line of the 1940s. Consisting of centerman Sid Abel, right winger Gordie Howe, and left winger Ted Lindsay, The Production Line was the most dominant line of its era, winning two Stanley Cups and scoring a combined total of 1,041 points over its time together. Gordie Howe was the NHL's top scorer for five straight seasons and The Production Line was the first NHL line where all three members surpassed 20 goals in a season.
The French Connection - Buffalo Sabres
The French Connection was the name given to the Buffalo Sabres' top line of centerman Gilbert Perreault, left winger Rick Martin, and right winger Rene Robert. They played together from 1972 to 1979 and were instrumental in leading the Sabres to the Stanley Cup final in 1975. Perreault scored 512 goals and 814 assists in 1,191 games with the Sabres, Martin scored 384 goals and 317 assists in 685 games, and Robert scored 284 goals and 418 assists in 524 games.
The Triple Crown Line - Los Angeles Kings
The Triple Crown Line was the name given to the Los Angeles Kings' top line of Marcel Dionne, Dave Taylor, and Charlie Simmer. They played together from 1979 to 1984 and were the most productive line in the league during that time. Dionne scored 550 goals and 1,040 assists in 1,348 games, Taylor scored 431 goals and 638 assists in 1,111 games, and Simmer scored 342 goals and 377 assists in 712 games.
The Legion of Doom - Philadelphia Flyers
The Legion of Doom was the name given to the Philadelphia Flyers' top line of Eric Lindros, John LeClair, and Mikael Renberg. They played together from 1995 to 1997 and were one of the most dominant lines in NHL history. Lindros won the Hart Trophy as league MVP in the 1994-95 season, LeClair scored 406 goals and 333 assists in 967 games, and Renberg scored 190 goals and 230 assists in 647 games.
The Pizza Line - Boston Bruins
The Pizza Line was the name given to the Boston Bruins' top line of Adam Oates, Cam Neely, and Joe Juneau. They played together from 1991 to 1994 and were one of the most effective lines of their time, leading the Bruins to the Stanley Cup finals in 1990. Oates scored 1,420 points in 1,337 games, Neely scored 395 goals and 299 assists in 726 games, and Juneau scored 156 goals and 416 assists in 828 games.
